Emmys 2024 winners list: Quinta Brunson and 'The Bear' score early wins

Quinta Brunson is known for getting laughs, but she can also tug at the heart strings.

The "Abbott Elementary" star took home one of the first wins of the night at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards Monday when she won the award for best lead actress in a comedy series, which was presented by comedy icon Carol Burnett. The victory proved to be an emotional moment for Brunson, who teared up before she even began her acceptance speech.

"I don't even know why I'm so emotional, I think the Carol Burnett of it all," Brunson joked. "I love making 'Abbott Elementary' so much, and I am so happy to be able to live my dream and act out comedy. I love comedy so much, and I'm so happy to be able to get this."

This year’s Emmy Awards come after TV's biggest night was postponed from Sept. 18, 2023 due to the dual writers and actors strikes, marking the most significant delay of the Emmys since 2001.

“Succession,” HBO’s family dramedy centering the power-hungry Roys, and the network’s post-apocalyptic action-drama “The Last of Us” are the top contenders at the Emmys, with 27 and 24 nominations, respectively. Other blockbuster series facing off for victory are satirical comedy "The White Lotus" and sports dramedy "Ted Lasso."
